Wu’s weakness, Part II: The property-tax debacle

I don’t recall a previous Boston mayor suffering such a humiliating setback on Beacon Hill. I’m sure there are other examples out there. But not of this caliber. … The Globe’s Adrian Walker probably has the best analysis of the Senate’s rejection of Mayor Michelle Wu’s property-tax-hike scheme: “One could argue that it’s just one bill. But there’s never a good time for a mayor to look this weak. Months of negotiating, begging, and pleading on Wu’s part didn’t even get this high-priority bill to the Senate floor.” And he’s right to say the defeat might “embolden a potential opponent sitting on the fence” to challenge her. But Josh Kraft? C’mon. … And this is equally lame: Ed Flynn, who’s eyeing a Flynn family return to the mayor’s office, is calling for a state investigation of Wu’s changing revenue numbers. It’s his stunt of the week. Perhaps a George Regan special?
